Dear Friends,
My name is Stephanie Miley and I am running for State Representative
in District 8. As your voice at the State Capitol, I would like to
change the economic climate of our district. It seems that with all
of our potential, we should be realizing our dreams as a community.
If we work together this election season, we can restore the family
values that once dominated our district, improve educational
opportunities for our children, secure jobs for the public, and make
District 8 an example for all of Michigan.
My plan is to challenge "politics as usual" in Lansing and in our
community. I feel that many of our current and past leaders have
abused their positions for their own selfish reasons or gains. We
need leaders who will be responsible in their positions and create
defining moments in time that will improve our current way of life
and give our next generation better opportunities than we have
today. Leaders should spend the time to understand EVERY piece of
potential legislation and how it affects us -
- prior to voting. With the State of Michigan looking at a budget
shortfall of over two billion dollars this year, some hard choices
are going to have to be made. I do not want our district to suffer
the brunt of these reductions, or incur an increase in taxes.
Education is a serious issue here in Michigan that affects us all.
In Detroit, there is ongoing discussion on allowing Mayor Dave Bing
to control the Detroit Public Schools. I am AGAINST any efforts to
allow a Mayoral takeover of our Detroit Public Schools and as your
next state representative I will fight ANY efforts to STOP those who
do not have the BEST interests at heart to help support the Detroit
Public Schools.
We have to improve our educational system and quality of life. We
can do this together by focusing on affordable early childhood
development for children, creating jobs through entrepreneurship and
small business development, focus on stronger consumer protection
laws to protect senior citizens from fraud schemes and identity
theft and repealing the Driver Responsibility Act.
In this election, I ask not only for your
support, but also your energy, your ideas and your encouragement.
With your support, I will keep fighting for your beliefs and your
values in Lansing.
Therefore, I would appreciate your vote on August 3, 2010 and hope
to see you again as your State Representative in January.
